Ras Mohamed and White Island are sold together as a full-day boat trip by a dozen different operators in Sharm, under titles so similar that comparing them is genuinely hard. The itineraries barely differ – what differs is how much time you get in the water, what lunch looks like, and how the diving is priced. That last one is where people get caught, and it is worth understanding before you pick a listing.
Ras Mohamed is a national park, and that shapes the day
Ras Mohamed was declared a national park in 1983 and is Egypt's oldest, sitting at the southern tip of the Sinai peninsula where the Gulf of Suez meets the Gulf of Aqaba. In 2018 it was added to the IUCN Green List, a certification for protected areas judged to be effectively managed – which is unusual recognition and not marketing language.
For you, the practical consequences are simple. Boats operate to fixed moorings, park fees are built into the ticket, and you snorkel where the park allows rather than where a captain fancies. That is why the itineraries across operators look so alike: they are working the same permitted sites.
It is also why the reef here is in the condition it is in. Ras Mohamed has been protected for over forty years, which on a Red Sea timescale means the coral you snorkel over has had a long time without anchors dropped on it.
What actually varies between operators
This is the part no listing will tell you, because every operator writes as though theirs is the only one. Having compared the live listings, four things genuinely differ:

Scuba diving is not included in the base price on any of these trips, and the "intro dive" is ten minutes long. On the listing we recommend, additional dive time is charged at €30 for every extra ten minutes. That is not a hidden fee – it is stated – but it is easy to skim past when a title contains the word "dive."
For most people the honest advice is to skip the dive add-on entirely. The snorkeling at Ras Mohamed is shallow, clear and genuinely good – you are not missing the reef by staying on the surface, and the money is better spent elsewhere.
White Island is a sandbank, not an island
Worth setting expectations. White Island is a bare sand spit that surfaces from the sea with no buildings, no shade and no facilities on it. That is the appeal – it looks like nothing else on the route – but it also means an hour there in full sun with nowhere to retreat to.
Bring a hat and put sun cream on before you land rather than after. The sand reflects hard, and people routinely burn there without noticing.
The stop tends to come after lunch, when the light is at its flattest for photographs. If pictures are the reason you are going, that is worth knowing in advance – the morning cruise down offers better light than the sandbank does.
When to go
September through May is the Red Sea's high season, and Sharm's winter is the reason the resort exists – warm, dry, and swimmable when Europe is not. Water temperatures stay comfortable through the winter, and visibility is often at its best in the calmer months.
June through August still runs, but a nine-hour day on open water in Sinai summer heat is a serious undertaking. If you travel then, the shaded seating and the onboard showers stop being a nice-to-have.
Book the earliest departure you can. The wind through the Strait builds during the day, and the run back up from Ras Mohamed in the afternoon is choppier than the run down.

The genuine distinction between the two boat days: Ras Mohamed heads south into the national park, Tiran heads north into the Strait of Tiran. Different water, different reefs, different dive sites. Doing both across a week is not repetitive, which is not true of booking two Ras Mohamed trips from two operators.
