Thailand's island day trips run from three bases. From Phuket the boats head into Phang Nga Bay for James Bond Island and the sea caves, and out to Phi Phi and the Similan Islands – the Similans behind a five-month park closure. From Krabi the same southern islands are closer and cheaper, and the Ao Nang pier is at the end of the beach with no cross-island transfer. From Koh Samui the trips go to Ang Thong Marine Park, which shuts for about six weeks a year, and across the Gulf to Koh Tao.
