In Porto de Galinhas, the beach in front of your resort matters more than the resort. Most hotels line Cupe, a 5 km stretch where every hotel warns guests about holes and strong currents. The calm water is at Muro Alto and Pontal do Cupe. Book NANNAI Muro Alto for the best of it – about half its rooms are bungalows, many with a private pool. For all-inclusive with kids, book Summerville.

Those are approximate nightly rates for two in US dollars, and they swing a lot by season. All six front the sea. But only the first four are on the beaches where you can swim at any tide – Muro Alto and Pontal do Cupe. The beachfront resorts hub runs the same test across Brazil, the Caribbean and Mexico.
Which Porto de Galinhas resort should you book?
For a couple, book NANNAI Muro Alto. Brazilian travel guide Viaje na Viagem calls it the top hotel in Porto de Galinhas, and it sits on the reef-protected corner of Muro Alto. Check NANNAI availability early – searches for Porto de Galinhas peak in June, July and December.
With kids, book Summerville. On a tighter budget with calm water, Samoa. For all-inclusive at the best swimming beach, Ocaporã.

On Muro Alto
NANNAI Muro Alto
The honeymoon booking. NANNAI (formerly Nannai Resort & Spa) sits on the south corner of Muro Alto, the most exclusive stretch, per Viaje na Viagem. The guide says about half the rooms are bungalows with a private pool or set on a reflecting pool.
The guide also rates the dinner buffet highly, and afternoon tea in the garden is included in the rate. It isn't one of the all-inclusives.

Samoa Beach Resort
The value pick on calm water. Samoa opened in 2018, and Viaje na Viagem says it sits on the best stretch of Muro Alto, in front of the natural pool, with no rocks.
It's a four-star hotel, not an all-inclusive. Expedia lists a free breakfast buffet and a poolside bar.

Summerville Resort All Inclusive
The family booking. Summerville is all-inclusive, and Viaje na Viagem calls it one of Brazil's favorite resorts for families with small children, thanks to its kids' activities team. It was the first in Porto de Galinhas to build a long river-style pool.
The beach right in front has rocks. The guide says to walk north to the stretch in front of NANNAI, where Summerville keeps a beach tent.

On Pontal do Cupe
Ocapora Hotel All Inclusive
The swimmer's all-inclusive. Ocaporã has run all-inclusive since 2017, per Viaje na Viagem, which calls Pontal do Cupe the best swimming beach in Porto de Galinhas, at any tide. The safe stretch is about five minutes' walk from the hotel.
The pool faces the sea. The guide says standard rooms are basic, and the sea-view bungalows are roomier.

On Cupe
The Westin Porto de Galinhas
The brand-name all-inclusive. The Westin opened in 2022 as the brand's first resort in Brazil, after a full renovation. Its address is on Cupe beach, and Marriott says it sits right in front of the ocean.
Expedia lists villas with plunge pools, and stays earn Marriott Bonvoy points. The catch is the sea in front – Cupe's currents mean you'll swim in the pools or head to Pontal do Cupe.

Enotel Porto de Galinhas
The water-park booking. Enotel runs a 24-hour all-inclusive on the beach, and its site lists seven pools, a kids' water park, a lazy river and a wave pool. For years it was Porto de Galinhas's only all-inclusive, per Viaje na Viagem.
It's big – about 700 rooms across two hotels – and its Booking.com guest scores sit below the others here. It's about 30 minutes' walk from Pontal do Cupe.

Which Porto de Galinhas resorts are really all-inclusive?
Four of the six: Summerville, Ocaporã, the Westin and Enotel. NANNAI and Samoa are not, and Vivá's rates quoted by Brazilian travel blog Viciada em Viajar include breakfast only.
For the all-inclusive with the best beach, book Ocaporã. For the best kids' program, book Summerville.
Also on the beach
Vivá Porto de Galinhas Resort (Best Western) is on Cupe, about 15 minutes' walk along the sand to Pontal do Cupe, with a very long pool. Check Vivá rates.
Armação Porto de Galinhas and its neighbor Beira-Mar are the big hotels closest to the village – about 20 minutes on foot along the sand. Viaje na Viagem warns not to make that walk at night. Check Armação rates.
Village Porto de Galinhas, one of the area's first hotels, is on Cupe about 20 minutes' walk from Pontal do Cupe. Kembali, with a more modern style, is in the same strip, about 30 minutes' walk from the village beach.
Serrambi Resort, 14 km south of the village, opened in 1992 and sits on calm, clear water even at high tide, per Viaje na Viagem. It's simpler than the Muro Alto resorts, with a water-sports center.
Is Porto de Galinhas worth it?
Yes, if you pick the right beach. Porto de Galinhas is in Ipojuca, Pernambuco, about 60 km south of Recife, in northeast Brazil. Its natural pools sit just off the village beach and show up at low tide.
Getting there from Recife: fly into Recife's Guararapes airport, then drive about 60 km south – roughly an hour, depending on traffic and which beach you're staying on.
Why "Porto de Galinhas"? The name means "port of chickens." Around 1850, enslaved people were smuggled in alongside guinea fowl after the trade was outlawed, and traffickers used the code phrase "there are new chickens in the port," per Wikipedia.
Things to do: see the natural pools off the village beach at low tide, watch the surfers at Maracaípe, and take a day at Pontal do Cupe for the swimming.

Plan around Brazil's school holidays. Google searches for Porto de Galinhas peak in June, July and December – Brazil's winter and summer school breaks – so book early for those dates.
The natural pools only appear at low tide, so check the tide table before you plan a day at the village beach.
