Best Swim-Up Rooms in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (2026)

A swim-up room is not a private pool. The water is shared by design – your terrace steps into a pool wing you swim through, and in Punta Cana that's exactly the appeal. Four resorts here have confirmed swim-up categories, from $380 to $900 a night, all-inclusive, and three of the four are adults-only. The one most couples should book isn't the most expensive.

Every rate above is all-inclusive, so these numbers cover food, drinks and most activities rather than a room. The split that matters isn't distance – Cap Cana and Bávaro are both 20–30 minutes from PUJ – it's price and scale.

Which Punta Cana swim-up room should you book?

Book Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana. Its Preferred Club Junior Suite Swim Up opens onto a shared pool system including a lazy river – something almost nothing else in the Caribbean offers. It's adults-only 18+ on the same Unlimited-Luxury plan as its Cap Cana sibling, for $560 instead of $900, and it's the closest of the four to the airport.

Check Secrets Royal Beach datesDecember to April sells out months ahead, and peak rates run 30–50% above the shoulder.

Three alternatives worth naming. If the budget isn't the constraint, book Secrets Cap Cana – the bungalow swim-outs on Playa Juanillo are the best swim-up format in the country. Traveling with kids, or wanting a choice of tiers: book Majestic Elegance, which has three. And TRS Turquesa is the cheapest at $380, with one caveat you need to read first.

Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana

This is the one to book. The Preferred Club Junior Suite Swim Up runs 54 m² with a furnished terrace giving direct access to the pool – and the pool system here includes a lazy river, which is genuinely unusual in a Caribbean swim-up context. You're not stepping into a rectangle. You're stepping into a current that runs through the resort.

Be clear on what that means, because it's the point of the category: the pool is shared with other Preferred Club guests. That's what a swim-up room is. Anyone selling you a swim-up terrace with water nobody else can use is selling a private pool villa instead.

The rest is Secrets doing what Secrets does: adults-only 18+, Unlimited-Luxury all-inclusive, six restaurants and three pools, butler service on the Preferred Club tier, and the Secrets Spa by Pevonia. At $560 it's roughly 40% less than the same brand at Cap Cana, and at 14 km it's the closest resort here to PUJ.

Book this one if you want the Secrets experience without the Cap Cana premium. Check Secrets Royal Beach availability now – it's the pick most readers of this guide should hold.

Secrets Cap Cana Resort and Spa

If money isn't the deciding factor, this is the best swim-up format in the Dominican Republic. The Preferred Club Bungalow Suite Swim Out Pool View is a 72 m² Caribbean casita – wooden floors, a moon shower on the private patio, and a furnished terrace that steps directly into the water. A Swim Out Ocean Front version adds direct sea views.

Same honesty as everywhere on this page: there's no private plunge pool here. The terrace steps into the swim-out pool that serves the bungalow wing, shared with the other bungalows. What makes it feel exclusive is the casita architecture, not exclusive water.

Playa Juanillo, immediately in front of the resort, is one of the finest stretches of sand in the country – calm, clear and far less crowded than Bávaro's beaches. Preferred Club adds butler service, a dedicated lounge and an upgraded bar selection on the Unlimited-Luxury plan. The trade is the rate, from $900, and a quieter setting away from Bávaro's strip.

Book this one if the bungalow format and Juanillo Beach are worth the premium. Check Secrets Cap Cana rates.

Majestic Elegance Punta Cana

Majestic Elegance is the flexible one, and the only property here that works if you're traveling with children. It runs three separate swim-up categories, which no other resort on this list does.

Know which is which before you book. The Majestic Jr. Suite Swim Up is the mixed-resort option, with children permitted in the general areas. The Elegance Club Majestic Jr. Suite Swim Up and the Elegance Club Swim Up Suite with Outdoor Jacuzzi are strictly adults-only 18+, and come with the private Elegance Club pool, beach area and butler service. If you want adult calm, the Elegance Club tier isn't optional – it's the whole difference.

The resort sits on Arena Gorda Beach, one of Bávaro's calmer stretches, with five pools, eight restaurants and a casino on site, and it's the most-reviewed swim-up property in Punta Cana – a lot of consistent feedback behind the score. It's also the furthest of the Bávaro properties from the airport at 21 km.

Book this one if you're bringing kids, or you want to choose your own tier rather than take what's offered. Check Majestic Elegance rates.

TRS Turquesa Hotel

TRS Turquesa is the cheapest all-inclusive swim-up rate in Punta Cana at $380, and it comes with the widest dining spread on this list: 19 restaurants across the Grand Palladium Complex, which the TRS wing has access to. It's adults-only throughout, butler service included, on El Cortecito Beach in Bávaro – the same stretch as Secrets Royal Beach, 20 km from PUJ.

One thing is unresolved, and we won't paper over it. The Junior Suite Swim Up is listed as a swim-up category, but we could not confirm what kind of pool it opens onto – the resort's own room pages describe it only as a "swim-up pool" with no language distinguishing a shared pool section from anything else. We're not going to tell you it's one or the other.

That's not a reason to rule it out – it's the cheapest confirmed swim-up category here, at a group with a strong service reputation. It's a reason to ask one question before you pay. Book this one if the rate and the 19 restaurants are what you're after – and confirm the pool arrangement with the resort in writing first. Check TRS Turquesa rates.

Heads up

Before booking TRS Turquesa's Junior Suite Swim Up, ask the resort one question: does the terrace open onto a shared pool, and which one? Both the TRS Turquesa and Royal Suites Turquesa sites describe it only as a "swim-up pool" with no detail. It's the one unresolved detail in this guide. Prefer a confirmed alternative? Majestic Elegance's Elegance Club tiers are it, at a comparable rate.

Why almost every Punta Cana swim-up room is adults-only and all-inclusive

Look at the pattern: three of these four resorts are adults-only, and all four are all-inclusive. That isn't a coincidence of which properties made the list – it's structural.

A swim-up room only works if the resort builds a dedicated pool wing with rooms wrapped around it, which means committing a whole section of the property to one room category.

Resorts that make that commitment want to protect the atmosphere they've just built, so they gate it – adults-only at Secrets and TRS, a separate Elegance Club wing at Majestic. The one mixed-guest swim-up tier on this page sits in the resort that also sells two adults-only versions.

The all-inclusive part follows from where you are. These are self-contained beach resorts, so the rate absorbs the restaurants and bars because there's nowhere else you'd realistically eat – which is why a $560 swim-up night here isn't comparable to a $560 room rate in Europe.

And it's why the Cap Cana versus Bávaro question is a red herring for most travelers. Both are 20–30 minutes from PUJ – the transfer difference is minutes. What you're really choosing between is Cap Cana's exclusivity and Juanillo's sand against Bávaro's wider range of resorts and prices.

For the same category on other coasts – all of it held to the same terrace-into-the-water test as the swim-up rooms hubswim-up rooms in Zanzibar cover the Indian Ocean, Antalya is where the format is cheapest and most common, and Rhodes covers the Mediterranean version.

When to go

December to April is peak season and the best weather – dry, sunny, 27–30°C, with the Caribbean at its clearest. It's also when swim-up categories book out months ahead for Christmas and spring break, at 30–50% above shoulder-season rates. February to April is the sweet spot inside that window: same weather, quieter resorts.

November is the best shoulder month. Still warm and dry enough for the pool and the beach, noticeably cheaper, noticeably calmer.

May to October is hurricane season. Travel insurance isn't optional, and August to early October carries real weather risk – the pools keep running, but beach days get disrupted. June and early July work for budget travel; after that the odds turn.
