It runs an indoor pool with a hot tub alongside a seasonal outdoor pool, and a hot breakfast is included. That combination is unusual on this strip: most Boardwalk hotels give you one pool or the other, and the indoor one matters more than people expect on a coast where the Atlantic doesn't warm up until late June.

9th Street is the southern half of the Boardwalk, closer to the fishing pier and the dense stretch of restaurants than any other hotel here. That's the appeal, and it's also the noise.

The indoor pool is the detail worth knowing: floor-to-ceiling windows facing the Atlantic, which is a genuinely better room to swim in than the standard interior box, backed by a seasonal outdoor pool with a Tiki Bar and an on-site Bistro. The rooms have been refurbished recently.

37th Street is the quiet North End – five blocks south of the Marriott, still well clear of the crowds at the pier, and priced like the brand hotel it is rather than the resort it sits near.

The southern Courtyard, at 2501 Atlantic Avenue, 141 oceanfront rooms, and a full refresh completed in 2025 – new furnishings and finishes throughout. It opens lowest of the seven.

It's a straightforward Marriott-brand stay, not a resort, and it doesn't pretend otherwise. What it has is genuine Boardwalk frontage at 25th Street and rooms newer than most of the strip. Don't confuse it with the 37th Street Courtyard – different hotel, different end of the beach, and only the northern one guarantees an oceanfront room.

Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront

The rooftop Sky Bar and infinity pool are the entire argument here – a real evening scene at 30th Street rather than somewhere to sleep, with beach access below and restaurants a short walk in either direction.

Guest scores trail the rest of this list, and value for money is the recurring complaint. The rooftop and the position are still hard to match at the price.

Line up the dates and the strip explains itself. The one hotel old enough to have real history – the 1927 Cavalier – is the one that isn't beachfront. Its beachfront wing arrived in 1973, came down in 2015, and was replaced in 2020 by a 24-story tower where every room faces the water.

That's Virginia Beach's whole pattern. This coast rebuilt rather than preserved.
