Which part of the Bahamas has the best beaches?
For the beach alone, the Out Islands. Harbour Island's pink sand runs along the whole east side of the island – the color comes from foraminifera, tiny organisms with reddish-pink shells. The Exumas are where the tourism board points for untouched beaches. Getting there means a second flight; Harbour Island is a short water taxi from North Eleuthera's airport.
For beach plus resort, Nassau. Paradise Island, linked to Nassau by two bridges over the harbor, has the Ocean Club and Atlantis. Cable Beach, on the main island, has Baha Mar on its white sand and Sandals Royal Bahamian. That's where the big resorts – and nearly every hotel in this guide – are.

Skip jet-ski rentals from beach operators on New Providence and Paradise Island. The US State Department bars its own staff from using them after assaults and unlicensed, uninsured operators were reported. Book water sports through your resort instead.

The Cove at Atlantis
The family booking with the water park. The Cove is Atlantis's suite tower, set between two beaches – Cove Beach and Paradise Beach, which only guests of The Cove and The Reef can use. Hotel guests get Aquaventure water-park access, and there's an adults-only pool for the parents.

Does Beaches have a resort in the Bahamas?
Not yet. Beaches, Sandals' family brand, runs resorts in Negril, Jamaica and in Turks and Caicos. Sandals Emerald Bay on Great Exuma closed in August 2024 and is being converted into Beaches Exuma, the brand's first Bahamas resort. Sandals is aiming for a late-2027 opening.

Why the best beach and the best resort are on different islands
Nassau has the bridges, the flights and the big brands, so that's where the resorts went. The Out Islands kept their beaches and stayed small – Pink Sands has cottages, not towers.
So decide what you're flying for. If it's the resort, book Nassau – The Ocean Club for couples, The Cove for families. If it's the beach, take the second flight to Pink Sands.
When to go
December through April is peak season in the Bahamas, with the highest rates. May and November sit just outside it. The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, so book flexible cancellation for late summer and fall.
