Rayavadee
The splurge. Rayavadee has 94 two-story pavilions and 7 villas spread through gardens at the tip of the Phranang Peninsula, inside Krabi's marine national park. Limestone cliffs rise behind it, and Phra Nang Beach is on its doorstep.
Getting there is part of the stay. The boat from Nong Nuch pier takes about 20 minutes. No road reaches it.

The Tubkaak Krabi Boutique Resort
The quiet boutique pick. The Tubkaak sits on Tubkaek Beach, north of Ao Nang, looking out at the islands offshore. Both of its restaurants are on the beachfront, and many rooms and villas come with a sunken outdoor bathtub.
It's small and built in the southern Thai style, with pool villas at the top of the room list and an organic garden that supplies the kitchen. Krabi International Airport is about 40 minutes away.

The mainland answer. Dusit Thani sits directly on Klong Muang Beach, with 240 rooms and suites and two beachfront pools in tropical gardens. Klong Muang is a long, quiet beach, and it's a big step down in noise from Ao Nang.
The resort covers the basics well: several restaurants, a spa and plenty of beach frontage. Ao Nang's restaurant strip is a drive away, not a walk.

Amari Vogue Krabi
The value pick. Amari Vogue is set at the northern end of Tubkaek Beach, facing the sea, with deluxe rooms and private pool villas. Koh Hong is about 30 minutes away by longtail boat.
It has the lowest entry rate on this list, from around $84. The trade-off is distance. Ao Nang's restaurants are a drive, and the airport is about 45 minutes away.

It's boat-only too. Longtails from Ao Nang take about 20 minutes. Railay West also gets busy by day, when tour boats come in.

Centara Grand Beach Resort and Villas Krabi
The private-bay booking. Centara Grand sits alone on Pai Plong Bay, a small cove just outside Ao Nang, with two outdoor pools and beachfront dining. A free shared shuttle boat runs to Nopparat Thara Pier, which puts Ao Nang's longtails and restaurants close by.
Be honest with yourself about the reviews. It's the lowest-rated hotel on this list, and guest reviews are mixed.

Why Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra isn't in the grid
It's the name most Krabi lists lead with, and it has real draws. A 7,000 m² freeform pool that the resort bills as Thailand's largest, 276 rooms and a 9-hole golf course on Klong Muang.
But this list only ranks hotels confirmed directly on the sand. Neither the resort's own pages nor its main listings say it is. They say "golden sands" and "between Klong Muang Beach and the rain forest", and one listing puts it a minute's walk from the beach.

Boat or road: the first decision in Krabi
Every resort here has karst islands on the horizon. The real split is how you get in and out.
Pick Railay, and you get the cliffs, the climbing and the sunsets, but every trip starts with a boat. Pick Klong Muang or Tubkaek, and you get quiet mainland sand and a taxi into Ao Nang. If you're unsure, Dusit Thani Krabi is the safe middle – top-rated, on the beach, and no boat needed.
Island days are the main activity from any of these bases. The Hong Islands tour and the Four Islands tour both leave from the Ao Nang area.

When to go
December through March is Krabi's dry season – calm seas, clear water for island trips and the most reliable sun. It's also peak season, so rates are at their highest. November is a transition month, with rain still likely early on.
The southwest monsoon runs roughly May through October, and September and October are the wettest months. Seas get rougher and some boat trips get canceled. That matters more here than almost anywhere, because two of these resorts depend on boats.
