Those are low-season entry rates, before the seaplane. It sits in the Fari Islands in North Malé Atoll, 45 minutes from the airport by speedboat, which runs at any hour – so a 22:00 arrival still gets you to your villa the same night instead of into an airport hotel.

The island has no communal resort pool at all. If you want to swim in fresh water here, it happens in your own garden or it doesn't happen.

The facilities are the point of the place. A tennis academy with coaching from former tour professionals, a golf hole, a submarine-shaped wine cellar, a cigar and rum lounge, and an ice room in the spa – the kind of list that only makes sense at a resort where the guest count stays low enough for nobody to queue.

Rates open around $3,700 in low season and climb toward $4,850 at peak, which is roughly triple Kihavah's entry and buys a different category of privacy rather than a bigger pool. Why "pool villa" means five different things here

Put the five side by side and the label stops meaning anything on its own. Waldorf Astoria measures its pool by area – 40 m². Velaa measures by length – 7.7 m, or 9 m in the Deluxe. Patina quotes 6.2 m. Anantara Kihavah and Soneva describe the pool but don't publish a size at all. None of those are lies. They're just four different sales conventions in one country.

The pattern underneath is geography. A beach villa has land to build on, so its pool can be a genuine swimming pool.
