Song Saa Private Island
Song Saa Private Island occupies two small islands, Koh Ouen and Koh Bong, joined by a footbridge in the Koh Rong Archipelago off Cambodia's south coast. Its 9 Overwater Villas sit on stilts above the Gulf of Thailand, each with a 26m² private pool on the deck, an outdoor bathroom, and direct steps into the water – genuinely private, not shared with neighboring villas.
The One-Bedroom Overwater Villa suits couples; the Two-Bedroom Overwater Retreat adds space for families or friends traveling together while keeping the same private-pool, above-water setup. Beyond the villas, Song Saa runs its own marine conservation program protecting the reef directly around the resort, which shapes much of the on-site activity list – snorkeling and diving trips focus on the sanctuary the resort itself maintains.
Getting there takes some effort: a road transfer of about 45 minutes from Sihanoukville, followed by a private boat to the island. That logistics cost is part of why Song Saa feels more remote than comparable overwater resorts in Thailand or Malaysia, despite being in the same general region.
When to go
Cambodia's coast has a clear dry season from November to April, with the driest, calmest conditions from December to February – the best window for a private-pool overwater stay where calm seas and clear water matter most. March and April get progressively hotter ahead of the rains.
The wet season (May to October) brings heavier afternoon showers and rougher seas, particularly during the peak of the southwest monsoon in July and August, though mornings are often still clear and rates drop meaningfully in this window.
