Which Cambodia private island should you book?

If your time is short or you land late, book Six Senses Krabey Island. You're 10 minutes from the airport to its jetty, then 15 minutes by boat.

Song Saa Private Island

The one to book. Song Saa covers two small islands, Koh Ouen and Koh Bong, joined by a footbridge in the Koh Rong Archipelago. The villas are on one island, the spa on the other, and the reef around both is a protected marine reserve.

There are 24 villas, and every one has its own infinity pool. The One Bed Jungle Villa is the entry point, with a 26 m² pool. Above it sit the Ocean View Villa, the One Bed Overwater Villa, two-bedroom Jungle and Overwater Villas, and the Royal Villa.

Rates start around $819 a night for a Jungle Villa. Overwater villas cost more than double that. The boat from Sihanoukville takes about 45 minutes.

Six Senses Krabey Island

The quick-access island. Six Senses occupies Koh Krabey, a 30-acre island of rainforest off the coast near Sihanoukville. From Sihanouk International Airport it's a 10-minute drive to the resort's jetty and a 15-minute boat.

There are 40 villas, all with a private pool – Ocean Pool Villas, Hideaway Pool Villa Suites and Oceanfront Pool Villa Suites among them. In late 2025 the resort added the Beach Retreat, two standalone villas on a private cove with an infinity pool, sold with a four-night minimum.

Why Cambodia only has two

Cambodia's coast has plenty of islands, and plenty of island hotels. Very few islands are given over to a single resort. Most, like Koh Rong and Koh Rong Sanloem, mix bungalows, guesthouses and villages along the same beaches.

When to go

November to April is the dry season on Cambodia's coast, and December to February is the calmest stretch. Boat transfers are smoothest and the water clearest in these months.

May to October is the wet season. Afternoon rain is heavier and the sea rougher, especially in July and August, but mornings are often clear and rates drop.
