Jamaica's swim-up map has moved west. Hurricane Melissa closed much of the Montego Bay and Rose Hall coast, and while those resorts rebuild, Negril is where the open, bookable swim-up rooms are – led by Sandals Negril, whose Crystal Lagoon suites open onto a shared lagoon that runs the length of the building. Five resorts are confirmed open with a genuinely shared swim-up pool. Two more reopen in December.

Five rows, not ten, and that is the honest state of the island right now – several well-known Jamaican swim-up resorts are either closed or have no shared-pool category at all. The swim-up rooms hub applies the same shared-pool test everywhere else.
Which Jamaican swim-up room should you book?
Book Sandals Negril. It is open, it came through the hurricane intact, and its Crystal Lagoon suites step into a long lagoon pool that runs past the whole row of ground-floor rooms – the most convincing swim-up product on the island and the least ambiguous about the pool being shared. Check Sandals Negril availability. The catch is real: Sandals requires two adults per booking, so it is closed to solo travelers.
If you are traveling alone, or you want the strongest guest ratings on this list, book Ocean Eden Bay in Trelawny instead – adults-only, half an hour from the airport, and the only property here rated in the excellent band.
If you want the newest rooms in Jamaica, book Royalton Negril: it reopened on August 25, 2026 after a full post-hurricane rebuild, so the swim-out suites are effectively new. And if price is the deciding factor, wait eleven days and book Royalton Blue Waters, which reopens September 15.

Sandals Negril
The Swim-up Crystal Lagoon Beachfront categories – a room tier and a one-bedroom butler suite – are the reason this resort tops the list. The Crystal Lagoon is a long, lazy-river-shaped pool that runs behind the ground-floor block, and each suite has zero-entry steps from its own covered patio into that same body of water. Nothing about it is private, which is the point.
Sandals Negril sits on 22 acres of Seven Mile Beach and reopened on schedule on December 6, 2025 after Hurricane Melissa, having come through the storm essentially undamaged. Seven restaurants, five bars, three freshwater pools.
Two things to know before booking. Sandals is couples-only – two adults per room, no exceptions – and it prices per person, so the headline number you see quoted is not what you pay for the room. Swim-up categories at Club level open around $500 a night for the room and climb steeply into butler tiers.
The one real caveat: Sandals sells mostly direct and through agents, so its Booking.com sample is thin and its score there is not a fair read on the property.

Ocean Eden Bay
The best-rated property on this list, and the only one carrying an excellent band on Booking.com. Swim Up Junior Suites and Privilege Swim Up Junior Suites have a terrace with direct access to the pool, in a 444-suite adults-only resort at Coral Spring in Trelawny – about 30 minutes from Montego Bay airport, the shortest transfer here.
Damage from Melissa was minor and the resort has been running throughout. Guests also get full access to the neighboring Ocean Coral Spring resort, which effectively doubles the restaurants and pools available to you.
One thing to have on your radar: the resort becomes Ocean Allure Eden Bay in November 2026, an upgrade within H10's Ocean Signature portfolio bringing premium drinks, concierge service and welcome amenities across all room categories. It is a rebrand and a service upgrade, not a closure – you can book straight through it.

Royalton Negril
The newest rooms in Jamaica, by a distance. Royalton Negril closed in November 2025 after Hurricane Melissa and reopened on August 25, 2026, restoring 573 rooms and re-employing 960 staff. If you want a resort where nothing is worn yet, this is it.
The swim-out categories run from Luxury Junior Suite Swim Out up through Diamond Club Luxury Junior Suite Swim Out and a Presidential tier. Royalton's own copy calls the water a "semi-private swim out pool", which in practice means a pool shared along a row of suites – guests describe it as feeling private right up until the neighbors get in. That is a shared pool, and it qualifies.
Diamond Club adds butler service and a reserved beach area. Rooms open around $450 a night all-inclusive.
Set expectations on one point: a resort eleven days out of a full rebuild is still finding its rhythm on service, whatever the rooms look like.

Azul Beach Resort Negril
Read the room name carefully at this one, because most of its swim-up categories do not qualify. The Premium Ocean View Swim-Up Suite – 608 ft², king plus sofa bed – opens onto a lazy river that crosses in front of the suites, which is a genuinely shared water feature and the only one of its kind in Jamaica. The Deluxe and Ocean View Deluxe swim-up rooms, by contrast, have a private swim-up pool off the patio, which is a different product entirely.
The resort sits directly on Seven Mile Beach, took no structural damage from Melissa, and reopened on December 1, 2025.
It is also the weakest-rated property on this list and the buildings show their age – management has said as much. You would book it for the lazy river and the beach position, not for the finish.

Royalton Blue Waters Montego Bay
The value pick, on a short delay. Royalton Blue Waters and its adults-only sister Royalton Hideaway Blue Waters reopen on September 15, 2026, bringing back 578 rooms between them. Rates open around $400 all-inclusive, the lowest confirmed swim-out rate in Jamaica.
The Luxury Junior Suite Swim Out uses the same semi-private pool design as Royalton Negril – sliding doors onto a pool shared along the row – with Diamond Club versions adding a butler and a reserved beach section. The resort is at Falmouth, roughly 35 minutes from MBJ.
Booking now, before the reopening, is the sensible play here: the resort is taking reservations, and the first weeks after a reopening are typically the cheapest a Royalton gets.

Two Jamaican swim-up names to avoid booking blind. Hotel Riu Negril's Swim Up Suites have a private pool on the terrace, not a shared one. Excellence Oyster Bay has no swim-up category at all – every pool room there is a private plunge pool.
What is still closed, and when it comes back
Jamaica's swim-up inventory is mid-rebuild, and two of the island's best-known properties are taking bookings now for stays after they reopen.
JOIA Rose Hall by Iberostar reopens December 1, 2026. The former Iberostar Grand Rose Hall closed on June 1 for a full renovation and returns as an adults-only, 295-suite property in Iberostar's upper-tier JOIA collection, with swim-out suites among the categories and rates opening around $859. Because the product is entirely new, we have not put it in the table above – there is no way to verify a room category that has not opened yet. Sandals Montego Bay reopens December 18, 2026. Its Crystal Lagoon Swim-up Club Level Luxury Rooms use the same zero-entry shared lagoon design as Sandals Negril, and the resort is five minutes from the airport – the shortest transfer in Jamaica, with the runway noise that implies. The one to write off for this winter is Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall. Its Swim Up Junior Suites are a strong product, but Hyatt has suspended operations at seven Jamaican resorts and does not expect Zilara Rose Hall to resume until the first quarter of 2027. If a guide is still recommending it as an open resort, that guide has not been updated since the hurricane.
Why Negril, and why the prices held
Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica's north coast hardest, which is why the swim-up rooms you can actually book this autumn cluster around Negril in the west. Three of the five resorts above are on or beside Seven Mile Beach, and the two that are not sit east of Montego Bay in Trelawny and Falmouth, where damage was lighter.
That has a practical consequence for the transfer. Negril is about 80 km from Montego Bay airport – an hour and a quarter each way, against 30 to 40 minutes for the Trelawny properties. Book a private transfer rather than a shared shuttle if you are landing late.
Prices have not collapsed the way you might expect after a storm, because capacity came back slower than demand did. What has changed is the negotiating position on the newly reopened properties: Royalton Blue Waters is listing resort credits worth several hundred dollars per stay, and that kind of inclusion is where the real value sits this season rather than in headline rates.
If Jamaica's rates are steeper than you want, swim-up rooms in Punta Cana cover the same adults-only all-inclusive format at a lower price point, and Cancún has by far the deepest swim-up inventory in the Caribbean basin. For a smaller, calmer island version, Barbados and Aruba both run on a different model – fewer mega-resorts, more boutique properties.
When to go
December through April is Jamaica's dry season and the peak – warm, reliably sunny, and the most expensive window of the year. Book by September for Christmas and New Year, and note that this year the two December reopenings will absorb some of that demand.
November is the value month: largely dry, noticeably cheaper, and the point at which the newly reopened Negril resorts will have had a few months to settle.
May through October is hurricane season, and 2025 made the case for taking that seriously rather than treating it as boilerplate. Rates are at their lowest and the weather is usually fine, but book refundable rates and buy travel insurance that actually covers named storms.
