Which Fort Lauderdale beachfront resort should you book?

For most trips, book Lago Mar. Its 500-foot beach is reserved for resort guests, per Lago Mar, and it has the strongest guest reviews of the five on Expedia. Families get a playground and a lagoon pool. Check Lago Mar availability early – winter is peak season.

At Harbor Beach, south of the strip

Lago Mar Beach Resort and Club

The all-rounder. Lago Mar sits on ten acres between Lake Mayan and the Atlantic, and Islands notes it's set apart from the main beach strip. The resort's own site describes its 500-foot private beach as reserved exclusively for guests.

There are two temperature-controlled pools, one of them a lagoon pool, plus a playground. Expedia lists four restaurants and a spa.

Marriott Harbor Beach Resort and Spa

The big resort. Marriott describes a quarter-mile of private beach and 16 acres of beachfront in the Harbor Beach neighborhood. That's the most sand on this list.

Travelocity lists about 650 rooms. There are two outdoor pools, a full-service spa and four restaurants, so you can stay put all week.

On the central beach

B Ocean Resort Fort Lauderdale Beach

The value pick on the main beach. B Ocean sits at 1140 Seabreeze Boulevard, and its own site says it's directly on Fort Lauderdale Beach, with a private stretch for guests.

The building opened in 1956 as the ship-shaped Yankee Clipper. Its Wreck Bar still runs live mermaid shows, watched through portholes into the pool.

It's a big hotel, close to 500 rooms. From around $170, including a resort fee. Book this one if you want the sand and the central beach at a lower rate. Check B Ocean rates.

Up North Ocean Boulevard

Pelican Grand Beach Resort

The smaller choice. Pelican Grand, a Noble House resort at 2000 North Ocean Boulevard, says it sits directly on the Atlantic with a 500-foot private beach.

Expedia lists 156 rooms, a spa and two restaurants. One caution: the resort's site says its lazy river is temporarily closed for maintenance.

In Lauderdale-by-the-Sea

Plunge Beach Resort

The reef booking. Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is its own small town just north of Fort Lauderdale. It's known as Florida's beach diving capital, per Islands, with reef a short swim from the sand.

Plunge sits between A1A and the ocean with direct beach access, per Lodging Magazine. It has 163 rooms, a pool and a beach bar.

From around $170, about a third below Pelican Grand's rate. Book this one if you want to swim out to a reef and keep the bill low. Check Plunge rates.

Is the Westin, Conrad or W on the beach?

Not on the sand itself. Fort Lauderdale's main hotel strip runs along A1A, where the public beach lies on the ocean side of the road, and the big-name towers stand on the other side. Two link to the sand by skywalk. The rest are a road crossing away.

For luxury service, book the Four Seasons. It opened in 2022, and its beach area across the road is for Four Seasons guests only, with food and drink served on the sand. Check Four Seasons rates.

To skip the crosswalk, book the Ritz-Carlton or the Westin – both reach the beach by skywalk. At the Conrad, guests cross the road to their own area of the beach, with chairs and umbrellas.

Searching for the Hilton? Beach House Fort Lauderdale is the former Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, renamed in 2025 after a renovation. Hilton says all 375 suites have a kitchen or kitchenette, which suits families. The beach is across the street. Check Beach House rates.

Also on the sand

Ocean Manor Beach Resort on the Galt Ocean Mile has 200 feet of private beach, per its own site, and oceanfront suites with full kitchens. Check Ocean Manor rates.

Sun Tower Hotel & Suites, a small hotel on North Ocean Boulevard, is also listed by Oyster as directly on the beach.

Is Fort Lauderdale good for beaches?

Yes – it's a beach town first. Visit Lauderdale counts 24 miles of beach across eight cities in the county, from Deerfield Beach to Hallandale Beach. Fort Lauderdale and Lauderdale-by-the-Sea sit in the middle.

You can swim in the ocean, but swim near a lifeguard. The city staffs 20 towers along three miles of public beach, every day of the year. Flags show the conditions:

• Green: low hazard.
• Yellow: medium hazard, moderate rip currents.
• Red: dangerous rip currents – stay out of the water.
• Purple: jellyfish or other sea pests.

For snorkeling, go north to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, where you can reach the reef from the beach.

Miami Beach or Fort Lauderdale?

When to go

December through April is the dry season and the peak – Google searches for Fort Lauderdale top out from January to March. Expect the highest rates then, so book the beachfront rooms early.

The wet season runs from mid-May to mid-October and brings about 70% of South Florida's yearly rain, per NBC 6 South Florida. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June through November, so check cancellation terms for a late-summer trip.

Sea turtles nest on the beach from March through October. City rules require beachfront lights visible from the sand to be shielded at night.
