Mykonos has hundreds of hotels. Only six are confirmed directly on the sand, split between two very different bays: calm, family-friendly Ornos, and the polished Platis Gialos and Psarou resort strip beside the island's beach-club scene. Mykonos beachfront divides cleanly into two areas, and they suit different trips. Get this decision right and any hotel in that group works. Get it wrong, and the best hotel on the island is still the wrong booking.

Ornos Bay: the calm side
Ornos sits on a sheltered south-facing bay, which is what makes it work in a place defined by wind. The meltemi that flattens umbrellas on the island's exposed beaches isn't much of a problem here, and that alone changes how many usable beach days you get out of a week.
Santa Marina
Santa Marina holds the southernmost point of Mykonos: a private peninsula on Ornos Bay with its own sandy beach. Almost every other beach here is public sand with a hotel sitting behind it. Not this one. This is the one entry on the list where the beach in front of you actually belongs to the property.
The land was a farmhouse, a chapel and a windmill when Elias Papageorgiou bought it in 1979, and it's still family-run: his daughter Christiana Papageorgiou owns and manages it today. Four decades on the same peninsula buys a kind of consistency newer arrivals can't fake. Nothing else here has it.
The resort runs 105 rooms and suites plus 12 villas of two to seven bedrooms, each villa with its own kitchen, swimming pool and butler service. Two infinity pools and a spa back the beach up, which matters more on Mykonos than it sounds. A windy afternoon here doesn't write off the day.

Mykonos Blanc
Blanc is the most literal beachfront address in Ornos. No path, no steps, no road to cross – a low wall is the only thing marking where the hotel's patio stops and the sand starts, and some rooms open onto a pool and the beach at once. That boundary is the entire design brief.
42 rooms and suites, which makes it small even by Ornos standards, and it runs three à la carte restaurants against that – most 40-key hotels on this island manage one kitchen and a pool bar. That shows at dinner. Rooms lean compact and white-on-white rather than grand: the Honeymoon Suite is 30 m² with an outdoor hot tub on the sand side, the poolfront Senior Suites 40 m².

Kivotos Mykonos
Kivotos opened in 1993, built by Spyros Michopoulos as a hotel that behaved like a private house – and it's billed, by the family and by the Greek hotel press, as the first boutique hotel in Greece. His sons Philip and Jason run it now. Around 40 suites and villas sit on a private beach in the same wind-protected bay as Santa Marina.
The rooms and villas are individually decorated by artists and family members rather than run to a single template. This is a hotel with a point of view, not a chain product. Two pools, a spa and a private yacht for guest cruises fill out the rest.
The trade-off is scale. At around 40 keys, you get a small hotel's facilities, not a resort's. Book this one if you want a hotel with a history rather than a brand standard. Platis Gialos and Psarou: the resort strip
This is the more developed side, and the reason most people picture Mykonos the way they do. Platis Gialos is a long serviced beach with hotels running down to the sand, and Psarou next door is home to Nammos and the wider beach-club scene. You trade Ornos's calm for walkable access to the island's best-known beach venues.
Petasos Beach Resort
Petasos is a Small Luxury Hotels of the World member on its own small headland between the beaches of Platis Gialos and Psarou, with direct access to the sand. That position is the argument for it: you're inside the strip's walking radius without being in the middle of the crowd.
The wellness side is what separates it from its neighbors. Not the location. The spa runs to 500 sqm and includes thalassotherapy, a hammam and a sauna, with a cascading saltwater pool alongside – the most substantial facility of any hotel on this list, Santa Marina included.
It ties with Santa Marina on guest rating, behind only Blanc, and it holds that rating with recent guests rather than historic ones. Branco Mykonos
Branco is 20 rooms directly on Platis Gialos, with a beachfront bar on the sand, sunbeds, music and a pool. That room count is the whole character of the place. It operates like a private version of the beach-club scene next door, not a hotel that happens to face the water.
What you give up is everything a resort provides. There's no spa, no second restaurant, no quiet corner to retreat to. One atmosphere, delivered well. That's the whole pitch.

Acrogiali Beach Hotel
Acrogiali is family-owned, 70 rooms, and the cheapest confirmed beachfront stay on Mykonos. It was built in 1993 and fully renovated between 2015 and 2017, worth knowing at this price point – the four-star finish here is recent, not dated stock trading on its position.
Its beach access is as literal as it gets on this island: you walk right out of the hotel onto the sand, with free sunbeds a few steps from the water and a beachfront à la carte restaurant. No transfer, no road to cross, no path down from a hillside.

A hotel with "Beach" in its name isn't proof of beach access. Petinos Beach Hotel is confirmed at 200 meters from the sand despite the name – a real walk with towels and kids in August heat. Mykonos Blu sits above its beach with steps down, and whether that staircase is private is ambiguous enough to leave it off this list.
Why so few Mykonos hotels are actually on the sand
Mykonos has hundreds of places to stay and six confirmed directly on the sand. That ratio is the single most useful fact on this page, and it explains almost everything else about booking a beach stay here.
Here's why: the island's coastline is a series of small coves backed by steep hillside, so sand-level building land is scarce – and on the two best-known beaches, much of what exists went to beach clubs rather than hotels. Most Mykonos hotels marketed as beach hotels sit on the slope above a bay, with a path or a shuttle down. That's a genuinely different trip, and it's why the naming warning above has to exist.
The practical consequence: these six aren't competing with the island's whole hotel stock. They're competing with each other. When one sells out for a July week, the alternative usually isn't another beachfront room. It's a hillside room with a view of the beach you wanted to be on.
There's a second pattern buried in the same list. Three of the six – Blanc, Kivotos, Branco – run 42 rooms or fewer, because a cove-sized plot at sand level can't hold anything larger. Scarcity here isn't a marketing line. It's a floor plan.
When to go
June and September are the best weeks for a Mykonos beach stay: reliably hot, swimmable water, and noticeably lower rates than the peak. July and August are the busiest and windiest months – the meltemi blows hardest in high summer, which is exactly when Ornos Bay's shelter earns its keep and the exposed north-coast beaches don't.
May and early October still work for sitting on a beach, but the sea is cooler and some seasonal venues are closed. Outside roughly May to October, most beachfront properties here shut entirely.
Whichever window you pick, book the room before you book anything else. There are only six confirmed beachfront hotels on Mykonos, and half of them are small – Branco has 20 rooms, Blanc 42, Kivotos around 40 – so beachfront inventory disappears long before the island runs out of hotels generally.
