Islas Secas is a private reserve spanning 14 islands in Panama's Gulf of Chiriqui, roughly 20 miles off the Pacific coast, reached by small plane from Panama City followed by a boat transfer. Just 8 casitas and villas sit across the entire reserve – the three one-bedroom Tented Casitas open directly onto a private terrace with an outdoor soaking tub facing the sea, while the four-bedroom Casa Cavada is the largest single unit.

Unlike every other property in this guide, Islas Secas doesn't appear on Booking.com, Expedia, or Agoda. Reservations run either direct through the resort's own site or through a luxury travel advisor – a genuine private-island resort, just one that doesn't use standard OTA booking. It's included here on that basis, with the caveat clearly stated rather than implied.

When to go

Panama's Pacific coast has a dry season from mid-December to April, the most reliable window for calm seas and consistent sun in the Gulf of Chiriqui. This overlaps with Islas Secas' peak pricing.

The green season (May to November) brings afternoon showers and lower rates – mornings are often clear, and the surrounding waters stay warm, making it a reasonable value trade-off for travelers who don't need guaranteed all-day sun.
