Check Datai availability first: there are eight of these villas in total, and they are the first thing to disappear over the December–March dry season.
If you want a choice of settings rather than one signature villa, book The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi – 29 pool villas spread between rainforest and beachfront. Traveling with kids, book Four Seasons Resort Langkawi, the only property here with a family villa category that keeps the plunge pool.
If the pool matters more than the resort attached to it, book Ambong Pool Villas – nine villas, no hotel block, a 10-meter infinity pool on every deck. And if you simply want a private pool on Langkawi at the lowest defensible price, book Royale Riviera Resort at around $180.

Read the room name before you read the price
Every mistake travelers make on this island comes from the same place: assuming "pool villa" means the pool is yours.
- The Datai sells a Rainforest Villa (123 m², no pool) and a Rainforest Pool Villa (175 m², private pool). One word, roughly $550 a night apart.
- Royale Riviera lists a King Deluxe Room at about $79. It has no pool. The categories with "Private Pool" in the name start near $177.
- Berjaya Langkawi's Premier Chalet on Water is genuinely over the sea and genuinely private – but what's on the deck is a jacuzzi, not a pool. It isn't in this guide for that reason.
The other half of the trap is the gap between a resort's entry rate and its first private-pool category. At The Ritz-Carlton the cheapest room runs around $690 while the cheapest villa with a pool is roughly twice that. Budget for the category, never for the hotel.
The Datai Langkawi
The Datai sits above Datai Bay inside rainforest that predates most of Southeast Asia's coastline, and its private-pool category is a single, specific thing: the Rainforest Pool Villa, 175 m², raised on stilts beside a stream, with a 7.6-meter pool on an extended deck.
Eight of them exist. The similarly named Rainforest Villa is 123 m² and has no pool at all – the most expensive one-word misread on the island. Further up, the One-Bedroom Beach Villa with Private Pool moves you down to the sand for around $2,200.
It is also the highest-rated property in this guide on Booking.com, which for a resort this size is unusual. Langkawi International Airport is roughly 30 minutes away.

The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi
The Ritz-Carlton has 29 private pool villas, and unlike everywhere else here you get to choose the setting rather than accept it. The Rainforest Villa is the entry point at roughly $1,310–1,460; the Beach Villa and Ocean Front Villa trade jungle for sea; the Grand Ocean Front Villa runs 200 m².
Above those sit two genuinely large units: Kenari Villa, 465 m² with two bedrooms and the resort's largest private pool, and Mutiara Villa, 650 m² with three bedrooms and two private pools.
The catch is the same as the Datai's, inverted. Rooms here start near $690, which is what most price-comparison sites quote for the resort – the villas with pools begin at roughly double. The private bay setting also means the longest airport transfer on this list, 40–45 minutes.

Four Seasons Resort Langkawi
Four Seasons holds a long private beach at Tanjung Rhu, and it is the only property in this guide where a family of four gets a private pool without renting a multi-bedroom villa. The Family Beach Villa with Plunge Pool is the entry point at around $1,660.
The Beach Villa with Plunge Pool is the couples' version: 220 m², with a 12 m² plunge pool fitted with a whirlpool, opening directly onto sand – expect closer to $2,700. Larger formats run to premier two-bedroom beach villas above $4,000.
It's also the shortest transfer of the luxury properties here, roughly 20–25 minutes from LGK, which matters more than it sounds with children.
Book this one if you're traveling as a family and want the pool on the sand, not in the jungle. Check Four Seasons villa rates – the family villas are a small category and they go first in school holidays.
Ambong Pool Villas
Ambong is the anomaly on this island: nine villas and nothing else. No hotel block, no room categories without a pool, no chance of booking the wrong thing. Eight are one-bedroom villas; the ninth, Villa Raya, has three.
Every villa has its own 10-meter infinity pool, angled down over the trees toward the Andaman Sea. The build is timber and glass rather than resort concrete, and the scale means service runs closer to a private house than a front desk.
The trade-off is straightforward: you're above Pantai Tengah, about a nine-minute walk from the beach, not on it. Airport transfer is short, roughly 15 minutes.
Book this one if the villa is the vacation and the resort facilities are noise. Check Ambong villa availability – nine units total, and it's well rated enough that weekends fill early.
PARKROYAL Langkawi Resort
PARKROYAL is the reason the price ladder on this island isn't a cliff. Its Premier Ocean View with Private Pool Room is 60 m² with a private pool on the balcony, and it opens around $620 – less than half the entry villa rate at the Datai or the Ritz-Carlton.
Step up and the Premier Ocean View Suite with Private Pool runs 135 m² with a wraparound terrace, closer to $870–990. There's a two-bedroom ocean view villa above that.
Be clear about what you're buying: this is a private pool attached to a room in a large beachfront resort at Pantai Tengah, not a standalone villa. For a lot of travelers that's the right trade, and it's the best-value confirmed private pool on Langkawi at 5-star level.
Book this one if you want a private pool without the villa premium. Check the private-pool categories – there are only a handful of these rooms and they are the first suites to sell.
The St. Regis Langkawi
The St. Regis is the only property in Langkawi with overwater villas, and they come with a private infinity pool on the terrace. There are four of them, including the Sunset Royal Villa, and butler service is standard across every villa category.
You don't have to start there. The St. Regis Suite with an outdoor plunge pool opens around $820, which is the cheapest way onto this property with a pool of your own; the one-bedroom sunset-view villa with plunge pool sits near $1,340.
It's also the outlier on guest scores – rated well, but the weakest of the seven here, with value-for-money the softest sub-score. Set on the Kuah side of the island, it's a different Langkawi from Datai Bay: town and ferry terminal close by, rainforest further away.
Book this one if overwater with a private pool is the specific thing you came for. Check overwater villa availability – four villas, and they book out first at every peak.
Royale Riviera Resort Private Pool Villas
This is the answer to the question the luxury resorts don't address: a private pool on Langkawi for a normal budget. Royale Riviera is a 3-star property at Pantai Cenang, minutes from the airport, and its private-pool categories start near $177 for a Super Junior Suite Studio with Private Pool.
The proper villa suites – Elite, Luxe with Terrace, Signature River View, Deluxe River View – run roughly $299–326, still under a quarter of what a Ritz-Carlton villa costs.
Read the category names carefully, because this is where the island's naming trap bites hardest: the King Deluxe Room at around $79 has no pool, and it's the rate that shows up in price comparisons. Expect a small, well-run 3-star rather than a resort – guests rate it highly, but the facilities are not in the same conversation as the properties above.

The Andaman still shows up on Langkawi "best private pool" lists. It has not existed since 2021. A January 2021 fire destroyed roughly 80% of the Datai Bay resort and it has not reopened. Its old "Direct Pool Access" rooms shared two pools anyway – never private.
Two more options worth knowing
The Danna Langkawi, at Telaga Harbour on the Pantai Kok side, sells a Princess Beach Villa with Private Pool – around 490 m² with direct beach access from a private garden and its own pool deck, at roughly $1,180. It's a single category on an otherwise pool-free 5-star property, which is why it isn't in the table above, but it slots neatly between the St. Regis and the Ritz-Carlton. Check The Danna.
There is also a whole tier of small private villa rentals around Pantai Cenang and Pantai Tengah – names like Lavanya and Chenang turn up constantly in searches – booking from well under $150 with a pool in the garden. They're houses rather than hotels: no restaurant, no service, variable upkeep, and the pool is genuinely yours. Worth a look if you're traveling as a group and the resort part doesn't matter.
When to go
December through March is the dry season – lowest rainfall, calmest sea, and the only window where a private pool gets used every day rather than watched through glass. It's also when the eight Datai villas and four St. Regis overwater villas are hardest to get, so book the category before you book the flight.
April and May bring heat and humidity ahead of the wet season, which runs roughly June to October with September usually the wettest month. Rates soften noticeably then, and Langkawi's rain tends to arrive in heavy afternoon bursts rather than all-day gray – a reasonable gamble if the budget is the constraint.
Transfers from Langkawi International Airport range from about 15 minutes for the Pantai Cenang and Pantai Tengah properties to 40–45 minutes for the Ritz-Carlton's private bay.
