Which Los Cabos private pool villa should you book?

For most trips, book Montage Los Cabos. It sits on Santa María Bay, a protected horseshoe cove and marine preserve that is one of the few genuinely swimmable beaches in Los Cabos, and its entry pool suite runs 1,645 sq ft with a pool of roughly 6 by 3 meters. Check Montage Los Cabos rates before you compare anything else – pool suites are a small share of the inventory and December to April clears out first.

If the rate is the constraint, book Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal. Nowhere else in Mexico can you book the base room and still get a private pool.

If this is a honeymoon or an anniversary, book Las Ventanas al Paraíso – private infinity pool, 24-hour butler, and the only Los Cabos hotel on The World's 50 Best Hotels 2025. If you're traveling as a group of six or more, book Hacienda Beach Club for a three-bedroom residence on the one swimmable beach inside Cabo San Lucas itself.

Montage Los Cabos

Montage sits on Santa María Bay, and that single fact does more work than anything else on this list. Most of the Los Cabos coastline is either Pacific surf or a steep drop; Santa María is a protected horseshoe cove and a marine preserve, with a reef close enough to the sand that snorkeling is a walk rather than a boat trip.

The entry private-pool category is the Coastal View One Bedroom Suite with Pool – 1,645 sq ft, sleeping up to four, with a private pool of about 6 by 3 meters and 1.2 meters deep on an enclosed terrace with a daybed. Step up through the Ocean View One Bedroom Suite with Pool and the Marea one- and two-bedroom suites with private pools for a wider terrace and a spa bathtub.

Not every Montage room has a pool – the plain Coastal View One Bedroom Suite is a different, cheaper category. Check that the words "with Pool" appear on the rate you're booking.

Chileno Bay Resort and Residences

Chileno Bay is the Auberge property on the Corridor, and its One Bedroom Pool View Villa is the most house-like thing on this list: 2,900 sq ft of combined indoor and outdoor space, a full kitchen with Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, floor-to-ceiling glass, and a private pool on the lower level screened by bougainvillea. Larger three-, four- and five-bedroom villas run up the same model.

The beach is the argument. Chileno Bay is one of only two beaches in Los Cabos with live coral reachable straight off the sand, and the bay's protection means the water is calm most of the year.

Read the category name carefully: "Pool View" here means the villa has its own pool, not a view of the resort's – Auberge's own description calls it "your own private pool," and the amenity list says "Private pool."

Las Ventanas al Paraiso

Las Ventanas entered The World's 50 Best Hotels 2025 at No. 44 – the only Los Cabos property on the list – and it is the clearest romance pick in Baja. The entry private-pool category is the One Bedroom Oceanview Villa: 1,600 sq ft, a private infinity pool looking out over the Sea of Cortez, a separate patio Jacuzzi, an outdoor shower and a 24-hour butler. The One Bedroom Beachfront Signature Villa adds an infinity-edge pool at sand level and a bathroom with a two-person infinity bathtub.

One thing to know before you book: of the resort's 84 accommodations, the private infinity pools belong to the villas, not the suites. Rosewood's own accommodation pages separate the two, and a suite booking will leave you on the resort's pools.

The rest of the property earns the rate – a spa that ranks among the resort's most-cited features, a tequila and mezcal room, and a Director of Romance whose entire job is the thing you're booking this hotel for.

Book this one if the trip is the occasion, not just the vacation. Check Las Ventanas villa rates – 84 accommodations, and the villas are a fraction of them.

Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal

This is the outlier, and it's worth being precise about why. The hotel's own FAQ states it plainly: "Every Guest Room, Suite, Beachfront, Casita, and Villa includes a private plunge pool and terrace." Not a villa upgrade, not a category you have to hunt for on the rate page – the base room. That drags the price of a confirmed private pool in Los Cabos down to roughly $700 a night in the shoulder season, well under half of what Montage or Las Ventanas open at.

The setting is the Pedregal cliffs above the Pacific, on the landward side of El Arco, and you arrive through a private tunnel cut into the mountain. The rooms were reworked in a recent renovation, so the product is newer than the building.

The trade is the water. This is a cliff, not a cove: the Pacific breaks below you, there's no swimming off the front of the hotel, and guests are shuttled to the beach area. Book this one if the private pool is the point and the ocean is scenery. Check Waldorf Astoria Pedregal rates – it's the value pick here, and it books like one.

Hacienda Beach Club and Residences

Hacienda is the only entry on this list inside Cabo San Lucas proper, on Médano Beach – the town's swimmable beach, with the marina, the restaurants and the El Arco boat operators within walking distance. That's a genuinely different vacation from the Corridor resorts, where dinner means a taxi each way.

The category to book is the Three Bedroom Residence Veranda with Private Pool and Spa: a ground-floor beachfront unit with its own pool, a jacuzzi, a full kitchen and a covered terrace, sleeping six. Detached beachfront villas with private infinity pools sit above it.

It's a residence complex rather than a full-service resort, so the amenity list is shorter than Montage's. For a group splitting one rate across three bedrooms, that stops mattering fast.

Zadun, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve

Zadún is Ritz-Carlton's most exclusive tier, and its pool policy is more generous than the price suggests: plunge pools start at the entry guest rooms, not at the villa level. Serene Garden View, Ocean View and Ocean Front all appear as one-king guest rooms with a plunge pool and terrace, and the one-bedroom suites in each of those three views carry a plunge pool too.

Above them sits the Grand Reserve, a two-bedroom villa with a private pool, and at the top the five-bedroom Grand Reserve Villa, the resort's beachfront flagship.

There is a catch in the layout, and it's the one thing to get right on the rate page.

Zadún earns and redeems Marriott Bonvoy points, which no other hotel on this list does at this tier. Book this one if you're paying partly in points, and book the king. Check Zadún rates.

Nobu Hotel Los Cabos

Nobu's Deluxe King Private Pool is the smallest private-pool room on this list at 514 sq ft, or 48 m², with the pool on a terrace facing the ocean. It is also close to the cheapest, opening around $800.

Get the geography right, because a lot of guides don't: Nobu is at Diamante, on the Pacific coast northwest of Cabo San Lucas, not on the Sea of Cortez. The beach is dramatic and not for swimming. The hotel's four pools and the private terrace pool are where you actually get in the water.

What you're buying beyond the room is the food – the Nobu Los Cabos dining room and a Malibu Farm on the same property – and a Japanese-Pacific design language that carries from the lobby into the ofuro-style tub in the bathroom.

Pacific or Sea of Cortez – the choice that actually matters

Los Cabos is two coasts meeting at El Arco, and which side your hotel sits on decides more about the trip than the room does.

The Sea of Cortez side – the Corridor – is where you swim. Montage on Santa María Bay, Chileno Bay, Las Ventanas and Zadún all sit on protected or calm water, and the two bays in that list are marine preserves with reef close to shore. Add Hacienda on Médano Beach, inside Cabo San Lucas bay, and that's five of the seven.

The Pacific side is where you look. Waldorf Astoria Pedregal on the Pedregal cliffs and Nobu at Diamante face open ocean with year-round surf and rip currents. Both are excellent hotels. Neither gives you a swimmable beach, which is exactly why a private pool matters more there.

If your list has "snorkeling" on it, book the Corridor. If it has "a pool, a book, and nobody within earshot," the Pacific two are cheaper and quieter.

What doesn't count as a private pool in Cabo

One property comes up constantly in searches for private pool villas here and doesn't belong on the list. Villa del Arco Beach Resort & Spa on Médano Beach is regularly described as having "jacuzzi villas," but its own suites page is specific: "All Ocean Front Villas and Penthouses have Private Hot Tubs and BBQs." Hot tub, not pool. The penthouses have a spa tub on a wraparound terrace, and the swimming is in the shared resort pool.

That distinction is the most common booking mistake in Los Cabos. A private hot tub or spa tub is a standard feature at a dozen resorts here. A private swimming pool attached to your room is confined to the seven hotels above.

The other thing you'll find in these searches is whole-home rentals with private pools around the Corridor and Pedregal. They're real, and some are excellent, but they are rentals rather than hotels – no daily housekeeping by default, no restaurant downstairs, no front desk at 02:00.

When to go

October through June is the window. The dry season keeps temperatures around 22–30°C, and the Sea of Cortez coves – Santa María and Chileno in particular – are at their calmest and clearest for snorkeling.

December through April is peak, and it's when Montage, Chileno Bay and Las Ventanas run out of pool inventory first. Book 60 to 90 days ahead for those dates. July through September is hurricane season: humidity climbs, rates fall hard across all seven properties, and Waldorf Astoria Pedregal and Nobu hold availability longest because they have the most rooms.
