Banyan Tree Samui
Banyan Tree Samui sits on a secluded stretch of Lamai Bay on the island's south coast, and every one of its 88 villas – from the entry Ocean View Pool Villa to the Presidential Pool Villa – comes with its own 35 sqm private infinity pool. There is no standard hotel room category here; the private pool is standard across the entire property, which is unusual even among Koh Samui's other confirmed pool-villa hotels.
Higher categories – Royal Banyan Ocean Pool Villa, Family Deluxe and Family Ocean Pool Villas, and the Presidential Pool Villa – add a separate heated jet pool alongside the infinity pool, plus larger covered pavilions. The bay itself is calm and shallow, good for swimming directly off the villa deck.
Lamai is the quieter of Koh Samui's two main tourist strips (the other being Chaweng), with its own restaurant and nightlife scene at a smaller scale. Samui International Airport is roughly 25–30 minutes by road.
Six Senses Samui
Six Senses Samui is built into a hillside above Choeng Mon on the island's northeast tip, and 59 of its 66 villas include an 18 sqm private infinity pool. The entry Hideaway Pool Villa sits at the resort's highest point with partial ocean views; Ocean View, Ocean Front and Ocean Front Pool Villa Suite categories move progressively closer to the water with larger pool decks.
One naming detail matters here: the resort's cheapest villa category, the Hideaway Villa (without "Pool" in the name), has a private deck but no pool – only the Pool Villa categories and above include one. Confirm the exact category name before booking.
Choeng Mon is a quieter beach on Koh Samui's northeast corner, a short drive from both Chaweng and Bophut.
Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort
Anantara Bophut sits directly at the edge of Fisherman's Village, Koh Samui's most walkable dining and nightlife strip, without needing a taxi to reach it. The Garden Pool Suite has a 14 sqm private pool set in landscaped gardens; the Beachfront Pool Suite trades the garden setting for direct beach frontage and a private plunge pool entered through its own archway.
This is the pick for travelers who want a private pool but also want to walk to restaurants and bars in the evening rather than rely on the resort's own dining. Bophut is on the island's north coast, roughly 15–20 minutes from the airport.
Melati Beach Resort & Spa
Melati Beach Resort & Spa sits on Thongson Bay, a private cove near Choeng Mon with limited access to the main tourist beaches. Its entry Pool Villa category – a one-bedroom layout with its own swimming pool and sun terrace – is the most affordable confirmed private pool villa on Koh Samui, at roughly $221/night.
Larger categories (Pool Villa Suite, Family Pool Villa, Presidential Suite) scale up for bigger groups. The trade-off for Thongson Bay's seclusion is distance from restaurants outside the resort – Chaweng's nightlife is about 15 minutes away by taxi.
The Ritz-Carlton, Koh Samui
The Ritz-Carlton, Koh Samui occupies a private bay on 58 acres of a former coconut plantation at the island's northern tip. The clifftop Ultimate Pool Villa has its own 18 sqm pool with panoramic ocean views and commands the highest confirmed rate on this list, from roughly $2,500/night. The Exclusive Pool Villa is the more accessible entry point into the property's private-pool inventory, with a separate living area and either ocean or resort views.
This is the largest and most resort-scale property on this list, with extensive grounds, a Muay Thai ring, tennis, and Spa Village Koh Samui's eight treatment suites. Choeng Mon's beach is shared with Six Senses Samui nearby, though the Ritz-Carlton's own bay is more private.
Sareeraya Villas & Suites
Sareeraya Villas & Suites is the only confirmed private-pool property directly on Chaweng Beach, Koh Samui's main tourist strip, on the quieter northern end within walking distance of Chaweng's restaurants and nightlife. Its Villa category has a private plunge pool; the property's separate Suite categories have terraces or an outdoor Jacuzzi but not an exclusive pool, so confirm "Villa" specifically when booking.
Samui Airport is under 2 km away, making this the shortest airport transfer of any property on this list.
When to go
December–March is Koh Samui's dry season and the best window for a private-pool stay: low humidity, minimal rain and calm seas. Unlike the rest of Thailand, Koh Samui sits on the Gulf of Thailand side and follows a different monsoon pattern – October–November is the island's wettest period, opposite to Phuket and the Andaman coast, so avoid booking around those two months specifically. April–September is hot but generally dry, with July–August as a secondary high season for European and Australian travelers. Koh Samui's airport (USM) is small and serves fewer long-haul routes than Bangkok or Phuket, so many itineraries connect through Bangkok. For another Thai island with confirmed private pool villas, see Phuket.
