St. Lucia has exactly one overwater resort: Sandals Grande St. Lucian Spa & Beach Resort, a couples-only all-inclusive on the peninsula at Rodney Bay in the north of the island. Nine thatched-roof bungalows sit on a wooden jetty walkway above the Caribbean – the only stilted above-water rooms in St. Lucia. The overwater category has been bookable since 2017, sells out months ahead during peak season, and Sandals does not list it on Booking.com or any OTA.

Sandals Grande St. Lucian Spa & Beach Resort
Sandals Grande St. Lucian launched its nine overwater bungalows in 2017 – the first in St. Lucia, and still the only ones. The Over-the-Water Honeymoon Butler Bungalow sits on a wooden jetty walkway extending from the resort's peninsula into Rodney Bay. Each unit has a glass floor panel that opens onto the sea below, a Tranquility Soaking Tub set into the private deck above the water, an over-water hammock, and a direct sea ladder. The thatched-roof construction matches the Caribbean setting without adding unnecessary luxury-resort gloss.
The all-inclusive package covers what Sandals packages typically include: all meals across multiple restaurants, unlimited premium alcohol, snorkeling gear and non-motorized watersports, land activities and 24-hour personal butler service. At the overwater tier, the butler service is substantive rather than nominal – arrivals handled, restaurant bookings managed, in-room requests fulfilled around the clock. What it does not include is the airport transfer, which must be booked separately, and spa treatments, which are charged at menu rates.
One detail to confirm before booking: there is no private swimming pool on the bungalow deck. The Tranquility Soaking Tub is a two-person bath set into the terrace – a good feature, but architecturally a bath, not a plunge pool. Guests who want a private pool above the Caribbean from a Sandals property should compare Sandals Saint Vincent (opened 2024), where overwater villas include private infinity pools from approximately $3,000/couple/night all-inclusive.
Nine bungalows means nine units for the entire island. Sandals St. Lucia at peak season (January–April, Valentine's Day in particular) books out at the overwater tier three to six months in advance. The overwater category does not appear on Booking.com, Expedia or any third-party platform – it is bookable only through Sandals' own website, directly or via a specialist travel agent.
Sandals St. Vincent: the private-pool alternative
Since 2024, Sandals Saint Vincent (Buccament Bay, St. Vincent and the Grenadines) offers overwater villas with private infinity pools per unit – the upgrade that St. Lucia's soaking-tub configuration does not match. Pricing starts from approximately $3,000/couple/night all-inclusive, comparable to St. Lucia. The flight from St. Lucia (Hewanorra or George F.L. Charles) to St. Vincent (Argyle International) runs approximately one hour on regional carriers.
The trade-off is destination maturity. St. Lucia has established dive infrastructure, direct flights from New York, Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte and Toronto, and a well-developed resort ecosystem. St. Vincent is newer to tourism and has fewer direct US connections. For the Sandals overwater experience, the decision typically reduces to one variable: Tranquility Soaking Tub (St. Lucia) vs private infinity pool (St. Vincent).

When to go
St. Lucia's dry season runs mid-December to mid-May. January through April is the peak window for Sandals St. Lucia overwater stays: trade winds are consistent, rainfall is low, and sea visibility in Rodney Bay is at its clearest. February, around Valentine's Day, is the most demand-heavy period – the nine overwater bungalows sell out the furthest in advance for this window.
November and early December offer the best value combination: conditions are generally good, rates sit 20–30% below the January–April peak, and overwater availability is more flexible. This is the window to target if budget is a factor and availability at peak is already gone.
The wet season (June to November) coincides with the Atlantic hurricane season. St. Lucia's Windward Islands location means direct hurricane exposure is statistically lower than for some northern Caribbean islands, but the June–October window carries real weather risk at this price point. Rates are lowest and availability is highest – the trade-off is material for a once-in-a-trip honeymoon stay.
