The setting is the underrated part. Deep Bay is calmer and more sheltered than Dickenson Bay, which matters in winter when the north coast picks up swell. It's also 20 minutes from the airport, the shorter of the two transfers.

Unlike CHIC it takes families as well as couples – no age restriction at all – and Diamond Club status is bundled into the rate, so butler service, priority dining and the VIP lounge come as standard.

The room is the Luxury Junior Sunset Overwater Suite Diamond Club, the larger of the island's two bungalow products at 1,165 sqft, with a private infinity plunge pool on the deck, an over-water hammock, a glass floor and a sunset-facing orientation on Dickenson Bay. The price is the honest obstacle. At around $3,600 a couple a night it's Antigua's most expensive overwater option, roughly 80% above Royalton Antigua for a bungalow of broadly similar specification. Why one company owns all of Antigua's overwater inventory
