Private Pool Villas in Antigua: Four Formats, One Island

Antigua's four private-pool properties are not four versions of the same resort. A hillside cottage resort from $400, a 17-suite Small Luxury Hotels member, a 40-suite adults-only complex built entirely around plunge pools, and a 300-acre private island you reach by boat. The pool is genuinely yours at all four. Everything else – format, coast, price, who is allowed through the door – is different, so this is a format decision before it is a budget one.

Four rows spanning $400 to $1,500, and the price gap understates the difference. Two of the four are adults-only, one is a boat ride from the mainland, and one has just 17 rooms in total – so several of these rule themselves in or out before the rate ever comes into it.

Which Antigua private pool villa should you book?

Book Cocobay Resort. It is the highest-rated property on this page and the cheapest, from $400 a night, and the Cottage with Private Plunge Pool is a genuine one-cottage pool set into the hillside above the southwest coast rather than a pool shared with the next terrace. Adults-only, all-inclusive, and the rare case where the value pick and the guest-rating pick are the same booking.

Check Cocobay Resort datesand book the plunge pool cottage by name, because the resort has cottages without one on the same reservation page.

Three reasons to book elsewhere. If you want boutique polish and are willing to pay for it, book Hermitage Bay – 17 hillside pool suites, Small Luxury Hotels of the World, on the quieter west coast. If your dates are fixed and you want the best odds of getting them, book Escape at Nonsuch Bay, which has 40 plunge pool suites and therefore the deepest private-pool inventory on the island by some distance. And if the point is that nobody else can reach you, book Jumby Bay Island.

Cocobay Resort

Cocobay is an adults-only all-inclusive on Antigua's southwest coast, between Valley Church and Johnsons Point, and the Cottage with Private Plunge Pool is the reason it opens this page. The pool is confirmed exclusive to the cottage – not a terrace pool shared with the unit next door – set into the hillside with sea views, and it is the reason this resort out-rates properties on the island charging more than twice as much.

The cottages are built for two. Compact, hillside, and a walk down to the beach below, which is a real consideration if steep ground is a problem or if you are traveling with more than one couple. The all-inclusive board also means you are eating on site, which suits this resort's setting better than it would a town-center hotel.

What makes it the value pick is not just the rate. At $400 a night it is the lowest entry price of the four, and it carries the strongest guest rating of the four – a combination that usually does not survive contact with the Caribbean price list.

Book this one if you want the confirmed private plunge pool and the shortest possible route to it. Check Cocobay availability now – the plunge pool cottages are a subset of the resort, not the whole of it, and they clear first for the December to April window.

Hermitage Bay

Hermitage Bay is the boutique answer: a Small Luxury Hotels of the World member on the quiet west coast at Saint Mary's, built around 17 Hillside Pool Suites, each with a private sun deck and a plunge pool looking over the bay. Seventeen suites is the entire property, which sets the atmosphere and also sets the constraint.

The all-inclusive rate covers a food and service standard well above the island average, and the property is well rated across the board. What it sells is pace rather than a facilities list – this is a resort that does one thing, and nobody comes here for the nightlife.

The number to plan around is the inventory. Seventeen suites total means a single wedding party or one school-break week can close the calendar, and there is no second building to fall back on. From $1,000 a night, it is also the second-most expensive booking on this page.

Book this one if you want an owner-scale hotel rather than a resort, and you can commit early. Check Hermitage Bay rates.

Escape at Nonsuch Bay

Escape is the only property in Antigua built entirely around the private pool. All 40 suites are Plunge Pool Suites, split across Garden View, Bay View and Premium Bay View, and each one comes with a private plunge pool, an outdoor soaking tub and day beds on the terrace. There is no cheaper category here that quietly drops the pool, which is the most common way a private-pool booking goes wrong elsewhere in the Caribbean.

That structure has a practical consequence worth more than any single amenity. Forty private-pool suites is roughly double the combined total of the other three properties on this page, so when the island's dry season sells out, this is the address most likely to still have your dates – and the three view tiers let you move up or down a price band without leaving the resort.

The setting is Antigua's east coast at Freetown, on Nonsuch Bay, looking out toward Green Island and the offshore reef. It is quieter and less developed than the west coast, which is either the appeal or the objection depending on how much you plan to leave the property. The resort is adults-only and all-inclusive.

Book this one if your dates are non-negotiable or you want to choose your view rather than take what is left. Check Escape at Nonsuch Bay rates.

Heads up

Nonsuch Bay has more than one thing trading under the bay's name. The adults-only, all-inclusive plunge pool suites are Escape at Nonsuch Bay, listed separately from a different residences-and-rentals operation on the same bay. They are not the same booking, and the private plunge pool belongs to the Escape's suites. Check that the property name on your confirmation reads Escape, not just Nonsuch Bay.

Jumby Bay Island

Jumby Bay is a different category of vacation from the other three. An Oetker Collection resort occupying its own 300-acre private island two miles off Antigua's coast, reachable only by boat – the transfer is part of the product, not an inconvenience attached to it. There are no cars for guests, no day-trippers and no passing traffic.

The private-pool accommodation runs at two levels. The Pool Cottage is a two-bedroom, 3,042 sqft residence with its own pool, and the top-tier Estate Suites add a private pool with a wraparound patio. A third tier arrived in 2026: Coco Beach, a 22,000 sqft private beachfront estate, unveiled this year and not yet documented in the detail the older categories are – worth asking the resort about directly if you are booking at the top of the range.

One genuinely unusual thing about it: Jumby Bay books through the normal channels rather than by direct inquiry only. Most Caribbean private islands at this level do not, so you can compare a rate and hold a cancellable reservation the same way you would at a mainland hotel. Unlike the two adults-only resorts here, it takes families.

Book this one if the privacy of the island matters more than the price of the room. Check Jumby Bay Island rates – from $1,500 a night, all-inclusive, and the December to April cottages go early.

Four formats, one island

Antigua did not end up with four similar private-pool resorts because four operators solved the same problem four different ways.

Cocobay had a hillside on the southwest coast, so it built small cottages down the slope and put the plunge pool on each terrace. Hermitage Bay had a west-coast bay and no interest in scale, so it built seventeen suites and stopped. Escape had a quiet east-coast bay and no established resort strip to compete with, so it made the plunge pool standard on all forty suites rather than a category to upsell. And Jumby Bay had an entire island, so it sold the island and let the pool be a detail inside it.

Two rows in that table decide most bookings. The adults-only row rules out half the island for anyone traveling with children, and the private-pool-rooms row is really an availability row – forty suites and seventeen suites behave very differently three months before Christmas.

For other confirmed Caribbean private-pool destinations, Barbados has the most direct long-haul flights of any island in the region, St. Lucia is where Jade Mountain builds the infinity pool into the suite instead of onto the terrace, and the Caribbean hub compares five islands side by side. If it is the water rather than the pool you want, Antigua also has two overwater bungalow resorts, both run by the same company. Every destination on the private pool villas hub is judged by one test: is the pool actually yours, or shared?

None of those change the Antigua answer. Cocobay is the booking to make here – the highest-rated and the cheapest of the four, and the only one where the value pick and the rating pick are the same room. Check Cocobay's plunge pool cottages for your dates before you compare islands, because the cottages with a pool are a subset of a small resort and the dry-season weeks go first.

When to go

December through April is Antigua's dry season and the right window for a private-pool stay – low humidity, little rain, and calm seas for the boat crossing to Jumby Bay. It is also peak pricing and the earliest sell-out, and with Hermitage Bay at 17 suites and Cocobay's pool cottages a subset of the resort, book 60 to 90 days ahead for those dates.

May, June and November are the shoulder months – noticeably lower rates, generally reliable weather, and far better odds on a specific view tier or cottage.

Hurricane season runs June through November, with September the highest-risk month. Rates fall accordingly. If you travel inside that window, hold a free-cancellation rate rather than a prepaid one, and treat the Jumby Bay boat crossing as the part of the itinerary weather is most likely to move.
