The Algarve's most unusual private pool is indoors. The Conrad Algarve's Infinity Penthouse with Private Pool puts a full-length infinity pool inside the suite, under a retractable glass roof that opens the whole room to the sky – no other hotel room in the region has one. Three other Algarve hotels do it outdoors, on clifftops and inside walled villa gardens, and all four sell the pool as its own named category.

Read this price column differently from most private-pool guides. These are the villa and penthouse rates themselves, not base rates you then have to build on – at Conrad the base rooms run roughly €1,000–1,200 a night and at Vila Vita Parc around €1,200, so the numbers above already include the jump into the pool category. Three of the four sit at roughly the same tier; treat them as approximate and compare on what the pool is attached to, not on the euro.
Which Algarve private pool villa should you book?
Book the Conrad Algarve. It is the only property here where the pool is a piece of architecture rather than a garden feature: a full-length infinity pool inside the Infinity Penthouse with Private Pool, roofed in glass that retracts. That makes it the one Algarve booking that still works on a cool April evening or a windy October afternoon, when every outdoor villa pool on this list is a nice view rather than a swim.
Check Conrad Algarve dates – this is a single penthouse in a 154-room hotel, so it is not a category with spare inventory. Summer dates are decided months out.
Three clear reasons to book something else. If you want the Atlantic in front of the water, book Vila Vita Parc, whose villa pools sit at cliff height above the ocean. If you need real bedrooms around one pool, book Pine Cliffs, which runs three- to five-bedroom houses. If golf and an empty estate matter more than the beach, book Monte Rei – with one date caveat below.
| Your trip | Book | Where | The trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| A pool indoors, under a roof that opens | Conrad Algarve | Quinta do Lago | One penthouse in the whole hotel |
| The Atlantic in front of the pool | Vila Vita Parc | Porches | The highest rate on this page |
| Six to ten people around one pool | Pine Cliffs Hotel | Albufeira cliffs | Several similarly named sub-properties to book past |
| Golf and seclusion | Monte Rei Golf & Country Club | Castro Marim | 45 min from Faro, and the North Course is shut until September 2026 |
Conrad Algarve
The Infinity Penthouse with Private Pool is the reason this article exists. The pool is indoors – a full-length infinity pool inside the penthouse – and the glass roof above it retracts, so the same water is an enclosed room in bad weather and an open-air terrace in good. Every other private pool in this guide is at the mercy of the forecast. This one is not.
The hotel sits inside the Quinta do Lago estate near Almancil, beside the Ria Formosa nature reserve, with three golf courses, a footbridge over the lagoon to the beach, and Gusto by Heinz Beck, which holds a Michelin star, on site. Children are welcome throughout the property, which separates it from a lot of the region's design-led competition.
Two practical numbers. Faro Airport is under 30 minutes away, the shortest transfer of the four properties here alongside Vila Vita Parc and Pine Cliffs. And the property runs 154 rooms and suites, exactly one of which is this penthouse – which is why the honest advice is to check dates before you fall in love with the photographs.
Book this one if you want a private pool that works in weather no outdoor pool survives. Check Conrad Algarve availability now – and confirm the words "Infinity Penthouse" appear on the reservation, because every other room here has no pool at all. As a Hilton property, Honors points apply.
Vila Vita Parc
Vila Vita Parc answers the question the Conrad cannot: what if the pool has to have the ocean in front of it? Its Resort Villas carry a private infinity pool on the terrace at cliff height above the Atlantic, on the stretch of coast at Porches between Armação de Pêra and Carvoeiro. That elevation is the entire product – the pool edge and the horizon line up.
It is also the most decorated address on this page. The resort covers 54 acres, belongs to Leading Hotels of the World, and its restaurant Ocean holds two Michelin stars – the highest kitchen rating of the four properties here. Beach access runs through a lift cut into the cliff face rather than a walk down.
The trade-off is money and noise level, in that order. At €2,500 the villas are the highest rate on this page, and the resort takes families, with a summer activity program – calm here means a large well-run property, not an adults-only one. Faro is around 20 minutes away, the shortest transfer of the four.
Book this one if the view from the pool matters more than the roof over it. Check Vila Vita Parc rates – the Resort Villas are a small count against a large resort, and July and August clear first.
Pine Cliffs Hotel, a Luxury Collection Resort
Pine Cliffs is the group answer. Its Deluxe Villas are standalone three- to five-bedroom houses inside the estate above Praia da Falésia near Albufeira, each with a private pool and jacuzzi in its own garden – the three-bedroom layout takes six adults with separate living space, and the five-bedroom sleeps up to ten. Nothing else in this guide scales like that around one pool.
The estate around the villas is built for exactly that group: a nine-hole Pitch and Putt course, a full spa, seven restaurants, a kids' club and a family pool area, with beach access along a cliff walkway. Because the villas are multi-bedroom units, they typically go by the week in peak season rather than by the night, so the nightly figure is a planning number rather than a checkout number in July and August.
Book this one if the booking has to hold six or more people with one pool between them. Check Pine Cliffs villa availability – it is a Marriott Bonvoy property, so points redemptions apply to the villas.
Pine Cliffs sells under several names on the booking sites – Pine Cliffs Residence, Gardens, Ocean Suites and Village are separate listings from Pine Cliffs Hotel, a Luxury Collection Resort. Only the last one is the hotel described here, and only it carries the Deluxe Villas. Check the exact listing name before you pay, not just the words Pine Cliffs.
Monte Rei Golf and Country Club
Monte Rei is the quiet one, and the furthest east – a private estate near Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António, close enough to the Spanish border that Seville is a plausible day out. Its three- and four-bedroom villas have private pools in enclosed gardens, and the estate's whole proposition is that there is nobody else around. Pets are accepted, which none of the other three offer.
The golf is a Jack Nicklaus Signature design and it is why most guests come, so one date needs planning around: Monte Rei's North Course is closed from April to September 2026 for a renovation covering greens, bunkers and the irrigation and pumping system. That is the golf product, not the accommodation – the villas are not reported as affected – but if the round is the point of the trip, confirm what is playable on your exact dates before you book.
One more thing worth knowing before a long booking: the estate changed hands in June 2025, and its new owner has announced a large development for the site – a hotel, more than 70 apartments and 38 villas. None of it is built. What you book today is the existing estate, but it is a reason to check the current picture rather than an old review.
Book this one if you want a walled garden, a pool nobody walks past, and a short drive to a first tee. Check Monte Rei villa rates – Faro is around 45 minutes, roughly double the transfer to the other three.
Four private pools, four different Algarves
These are not four versions of the same booking. The Conrad's pool is indoors and weatherproof, which makes it the only one of the four that is genuinely a year-round product. Vila Vita Parc's pools trade that roof for the Atlantic at cliff height. Pine Cliffs trades intimacy for bedroom count. Monte Rei trades the beach for an empty estate and a golf course.
What none of them does is sell the pool as standard. At all four properties the private pool is a named category priced above the room next door, which is why the useful comparison here is category to category, and why the words on the confirmation matter more than the hotel's name.
For the same product elsewhere on the Mediterranean rim, the Costa del Sol is the closest match on both climate and flight time from northern Europe, Ibiza's finca-style boutique hotels do it at a smaller scale, and Croatia's Adriatic coast is the cooler-water alternative. Every destination on the private pool villas hub is held to the same test: is the pool actually yours?
When to go
May, June, September and October are the Algarve's best months for a private-pool stay – daytime temperatures of 24–28 °C, sea warm enough to swim, and villa rates and availability that behave far better than peak summer.
July and August are the expensive months, and the constraint is the category rather than the hotel. The Conrad's penthouse and Vila Vita Parc's Resort Villas are single-figure inventory against large properties, so they sell out while standard rooms still show green. If those are your dates, lock the pool category first.
The coast holds reliable sun from April through October. Winter is mild but it is not pool weather – outdoor water cools, and some resorts cut back to limited service. The Conrad's glass roof is the one exception on this page, and it is the reason it wins a shoulder-season booking outright. If you want the same format with genuinely year-round water, that is a longer flight: Bali has far deeper private-pool stock and no off-season.
