Barbados has three coasts, and you swim on two of them. The west faces the calm Caribbean Sea, the south is livelier, and the Atlantic east coast has strong currents. Those are entry-level nightly rates outside the December–April peak. Fairmont sells rooms with an optional all-inclusive package; the other six are all-inclusive, so their rates cover food and drinks. All seven sit directly on the sand – no road to cross. Which Barbados beachfront resort should you book?
For most couples, book Fairmont Royal Pavilion. Every room is on the beach, and Alleynes Bay is quieter than Paynes Bay just south of it. Check Fairmont Royal Pavilion availability first – December through April is peak season, and this is a 72-room hotel.
Want adults-only all-inclusive? Book The House on Paynes Bay. With kids, book Sugar Bay – or Crystal Cove if the west coast's calmer water matters more. For bars and restaurants on foot, book Turtle Beach.

West coast or south coast?
For calm water, the west. The Platinum Coast faces the Caribbean Sea. Barbados.org calls Paynes Bay a safe haven for swimming, with shallow reefs just offshore for snorkeling. Catamarans cruise this coast taking passengers to swim with sea turtles.
For energy, the south. At Rockley and Accra, the waves are lively enough for boogie boarding and light surfing. Silver Sands, near the southern tip, is a kitesurfing spot. St. Lawrence Gap's restaurants and bars are here too, and the airport is closer.
The east coast is for looking. Barbados.org warns of strong currents on the east and north coasts and tells swimmers to stick to the west and south. Nothing on this list is there.

Older guides still say "by Elegant Hotels." The House, Crystal Cove, Turtle Beach, Colony Club, Tamarind, Treasure Beach and Waves now carry Marriott brand names – search the new names when you compare rates.
On the west coast
Fairmont Royal Pavilion
The best-placed rooms on the island. Fairmont says all 72 rooms and suites are directly on the beach, plus a three-bedroom villa. The beach is Alleynes Bay – quieter than its better-known neighbors, Paynes Bay and Colony Club beach.
It's room-only by default. The all-inclusive package adds four meals a day and selected drinks. Families are welcome.

The House
The couples' all-inclusive. The House is an Autograph Collection resort on Paynes Bay, adults-only with a minimum age of 18. It's small, with fewer than 40 suites.
The package is the draw: champagne breakfast, afternoon tea, premium drinks and a jet-lag massage. Paynes Bay's calm water is right outside.

Crystal Cove
The west-coast family pick. Crystal Cove reopened in February 2026 as Marriott's first Tribute Portfolio all-inclusive. Its 88 rooms step down the slope at Appleby to the beach, so some sit a short climb above the sand.
The signature is the Cave Bar, a swim-up bar tucked behind a waterfall. There are three lagoon-style pools and a kids' club.
Entry rates started around $470 at the reopening. Most reviews online predate the renovation. Book this one if you want west-coast water with children. Check Crystal Cove rates.
On the south coast
Sugar Bay Barbados
The family booking. Sugar Bay is a 138-room all-inclusive on five and a half acres in Hastings, inside the UNESCO-listed Historic Garrison. Its beach runs about 150 m along a protected lagoon.
That sheltered water is the point. Tour operators pitch it as the calm alternative to the surf at other south-coast resorts.
There's a kids' club for ages 4–12, a crèche for babies and toddlers, and a teens' lounge. Two pools, one with a swim-up bar. From around $640. Book this one if you want all-inclusive, children and gentle water in one place. Check Sugar Bay rates.
Sea Breeze Beach House
Families, with a corner for the grown-ups. Sea Breeze sits on the Maxwell Coast with about 1,000 feet of beach – a livelier watersports stretch and a quieter one. Its 122 rooms share six restaurants.
Parents get an adults-only pool and Jacuzzis. The Lil Dippers kids' club takes ages 4–11, and teens get the ShoreBreak lounge.

Turtle Beach
Nightlife on foot. Turtle Beach reopened in June 2026 as an all-suite Tribute Portfolio all-inclusive on Dover Beach, a wide stretch of white sand next to St. Lawrence Gap.
Every room is a suite – about 165 of them. There's a kids' club, so it works for families too.
Entry suites start around $420. Most of its online reviews were written before the renovation. Book this one if you want the Gap's bars and restaurants within walking distance. Check Turtle Beach rates.
Sandals Barbados
Couples only, two resorts deep. Sandals Barbados is the beach side of the Sandals pair at Maxwell, with beachfront suites. Sandals Royal Barbados next door is built around its main pool, with a rooftop pool and a bowling alley.
Book either and you use both. Sandals counts 18 specialty restaurants across the pair.

Also worth knowing
Royalton Vessence Barbados is the newest all-inclusive on the west coast. It opened in Holetown on June 1, 2026, with 220 suites and a minimum age of 18. It's too new for a track record, so it isn't in the grid. Check Royalton Vessence rates.
Colony Club reopened in September 2025 as Marriott's first Luxury Collection resort in Barbados. It's room-only with breakfast, and some rooms open straight onto its lagoon pools. Check Colony Club rates.
Tamarind reopened on Paynes Bay in 2026 as an Autograph Collection all-inclusive, with just over 100 rooms and a kids' club. It's the Paynes Bay alternative to Crystal Cove. Check Tamarind rates.

Beaches Barbados isn't open. Sandals has announced a Beaches family resort of around 600 rooms in St. Peter, on the site of the old Heywoods and Almond resorts. There's no confirmed opening date.

When to go
December through April is the dry season and the peak – the busiest, priciest weeks of the year. Hurricane season runs June through November, most active from August to October, so check cancellation terms for a late-summer trip.
Late July into early August brings Crop Over, the island's biggest festival, ending with Grand Kadooment on the first Monday of August. Weighing islands?
